Staying close to Thendo

Thendo was diagnosed with kidney failure at birth

For the Mudau family RMHC South Africa was there when they needed it most.

My name is Portia Mudau, I’m from Limpopo. My son is Thendo Tshisikhawe, he is 9 years old. I came to Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital for the first time in 2021 August, we were transferred by Tshilidzini Hospital, then I got introduced to RMHC for the very first time- it was 2021 August- I can’t remember the date.

At that time I was so scared about where I was going to sleep? Am I going to sleep on a couch watching my baby?
Little did I know that there is RMHC. My first stay at RMHC was totally awesome; the room and the food they provide for us there, and the staff at RMHC. In 2022, I came back in February, in April, in July, and again in September. I was so welcomed by the staff, I remember making friends with your friendly staff like Rachel, Boitumelo, Patricia, Dipuo, Buli, Nonhlanhla and Bongiwe. I was no longer stressed, every time when I come, I know that I’m going home (RMHC).

To cut my story short, my son was diagnosed with kidney failure since birth, but they never helped me, until NMHC came to my rescue.
Last year March, they operated on him and took out his left kidney, the one which was no longer functioning well. He had infections every 2 months, but NMCH was there for us, not forgetting RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE my boy is now ok but we still come for check-ups and admissions cause his condition is a Chronic case… thank you RMHC and Team.
