09 Jul The right place, at the right time

A place that speaks all languages with love and respect around the world.

Thank you very much for holding my hands tight from day one until today. It was on the 02/06/2014 at CHRIS HANI BARAGWANATH HOSPITAL, when I gave birth to a premature baby girl, who was weighing 960g because I was 20-24 weeks.
On the 09/06/2014 everything shut down after meeting with the doctors, I was told that I must expect the worst because my baby’s organs were very small and not functioning in good condition. On the same day, I was directed to one of the rooms at ICU side without any explanation by the sister who discharged me from the ward.
Literally not knowing if I am going home. A home not just a Room. A place that speaks all languages with love and respect around the world. Arriving there I met two lovely staff ladies SIHLE and MPUMI who welcomed me at home and guided me about everything in the Family Room. The room was warm, you could feel love around it, surprisingly everyone was happy and in a loving mood instead of being sad and worried about their sick babies. Honestly, I automatically engaged with everyone and forgot about my dying child, from day one I could tell this is what I need and fortunately I was at the right place at the right time. The families were so friendly and very supportive to each other, sharing their stories, however along the journey it became a problem when I had to leave the place at 18pm and go home.
There was a huge difference between my house and my new home. With the RMH families I was able to face every challenge that came my way. Finally we got discharged on August 2014 and she is now 9 years of age very healthy. Thank you RMH for CARING, LOVING, COMPASSION and bringing back HOPE where there is no HOPE.
