A rest and regroup space within the hospital for families of children receiving medical care.
We are privileged to have rooms at the largest hospital in Africa and the third largest hospital in the world. Over 60 000 mothers give birth there each year. In the past 10 years Ronald McDonald Family Rooms have served over 26 000 families and children.
We currently operate two Family Rooms at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto which were opened on the 28th of November 2013. Each of our Family Rooms is unique and tailored to the needs of the families in NICU and Ward 66. They are staffed by a dedicated, compassionate team.
The Family Rooms cater for mothers of children in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and a neonatal ward 66 at the hospital. Mothers are provided with beverages, snacks, and nonclinical programs. They can watch tv, read books and magazines and interact and receive support from each other and RMHC staff and volunteers.

Whether you’ll be staying with us for just a couple of nights or have a long road ahead of you.
Families with a child receiving medical treatment at a partnering hospital can apply to stay, subject to space availability and medical referral.
Our House includes private family rooms, communal kitchens, play areas, laundry facilities, and quiet spaces for rest and reflection.
Families are usually referred through hospital social workers or medical staff. You can also contact us directly via our website’s “Stay with Us” form.
