Our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms offer mothers a peaceful space within the hospital to rest, recharge and remain close to their children receiving medical care.
We are privileged to operate inside the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto — the largest hospital in Africa and the third largest in the world. Over the past decade, our Family Rooms have served more than 26 000 families, providing comfort and connection during long and often stressful hospital stays.

We currently operate two Family Rooms at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto which were opened on the 28th of November 2013. Each of our Family Rooms is unique and tailored to the needs of the families in NICU and Ward 66. They are staffed by a dedicated, compassionate team.
The Family Rooms cater for mothers of children in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and a neonatal ward 66 at the hospital.
Mothers are provided with beverages, snacks, and nonclinical programs. They can watch tv, read books and magazines and interact and receive support from each other and RMHC staff and volunteers.
