Since 2012 Ronald McDonald House Charities South Africa has been a home-away-from-home for families whose children are receiving specialised medical treatment. We provide a safe and supportive space where families can rest, share meals, and stay close to the care their children need.
Our work goes beyond accommodation. We focus on building a caring community that eases the emotional and financial pressure of having a child in hospital.
Ronald McDonald House Charities South Africa is an independent non-profit organisation governed by a Board of Directors and supported by dedicated staff and volunteers.
Established in 2012, we are part of a global network of chapters that keep families close to each other and to the medical care their children receive through programs like the Ronald McDonald House and the Ronald McDonald Family Room.
More than 94 percent of hospital partners agree that RMHC helps reduce stress and financial burden for families while improving their ability to focus on their child’s recovery. Our partnership with hospitals such as the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital and the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital allows us to bring care and comfort closer to where it matters most.

We opened our first programme in 2012, and since then, we’ve expanded to include the Ronald McDonald House, Family Rooms, Care Mobiles and specialised initiatives like Lactation Centres.
McDonald’s South Africa is our founding and sustaining partner. The company helps fund operations through in-store campaigns, corporate support and volunteer engagement. However, RMHC South Africa is an independent non-profit organisation with its own Board of Directors and governance.
